Monument Police Officer Andre Maloche has been awarded life-saving tactical gear, including a rifle-rated ballistic vest & helmet, safety glasses and first-aid kit that can be rapidly deployed during an active-shooter situation.

The equipment was purchased by Monument-based Schur Success Realty & Auction owners Rich & Shannon Schur with United Country – and then donated to Maloche through the Colorado-based local non-profit, Shield 616.

“Active shooter scenarios are all too common – and first responders like Officer Maloche can’t always wait for a SWAT team before acting,” said Rich Schur, himself a former police officer. “First responders need the same level of protection against high-powered rifles and other weapons.”

The equipment donation was through Shield 616 – founded by former Colorado Springs Police Department SWAT officer Jake Skifstad.

“This a chance to make an impact and help your local police department. We’re rallying local communities around their law enforcement agencies, and we’re so appreciative of Rich and Shannon’s dedication and generosity,” Skifstad said.

During his career, Skifstad was involved in multiple active-shooter situations and knows the importance of having the proper equipment in the field. Shield 616 helped design the active-shooter kits, which can be donated for $1,000 each. The non-profit has already presented hundreds of active-shooter kits to officers throughout Colorado and the U.S.

The Schurs live in Monument and are both auctioneers and real estate brokers. Rich Schur was a police officer in the Chicago suburbs before moving to Colorado.

Maloche previously was with the Orlando Police Department before joining Monument PD last year. He was selected to receive the equipment by Chief Jake Shirk and the command staff at Monument PD.
