PASADENA, CA, US, December 27, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — With hundreds of thousands of spectators expected to attend the 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade and game, Pasadena Police and security executives are calling on the latest in vehicle mitigation technology to protect crowds.

For the first time, Pasadena Police are extending the use of Meridian Rapid Defense Group’s Archer 1200 portable vehicle barrier to key areas around the perimeter of the parade. The engineered steel barrier was successfully used last year at the main entrance of the Rose Bowl Stadium. Deployments this year have been expanded to multiple locations. They can be seen by the public at the Rose Bowl Stadium or the parade route at Colorado and Orange Grove Bridge.

Protecting attendees during the city’s highest profile event is a daunting task – one that is complicated by the mix of pedestrians and vehicles sharing access to many of the city’s streets.

“We will have more than 700,000 people lining the parade route and traveling on foot through the downtown area,” said Pasadena Police Lieutenant Sean Dawkins. “Of course, we are concerned about ensuring that pedestrians and vehicles are safely separated.”

The Archer 1200 barrier is a certified solution meeting both U.S. and European standards of protection. A particular benefit for an event like the parade festivities is that the barriers stop vehicles without impeding the free flow of pedestrian foot traffic.

“It is very important for us to strike a balance,” said Rose Bowl Stadium Chief Operating Officer George Cunningham. “Public safety is our number one priority. The Archer 1200 solution allows us to use state of the art protection and still have the ability to efficiently admit nearly 100,000 visitors into the stadium.”

With hostile vehicle attacks on the rise worldwide, municipal police and security operatives must develop comprehensive plans for any event drawing significant outdoor crowds. Often times, cities must resort to using ad hoc measures that are not tested for effectiveness. These include cement rails and plastic water barriers which are designed to keep cars on the freeway as well as public vehicles like trash trucks, fire engines, and squad cars. The latter poses a significant risk of equipment costs should an incident occur.

“Cities know there is a real need for protection,” said Peter Whitford, CEO of Pasadena-based Meridian Rapid Defense Group, the manufacturer of the Archer 1200. “We designed our product to address the real technology void in HVM (hostile vehicle mitigation). Beyond the first step which is certified performance, our barriers offer ease of deployment and flexibility. This allows law enforcement to place the barriers where needed and react to any change in threat level.”

The Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Stadium will be utilizing more than 65 barrier units across four high-access locations. This more than doubles the fleet used for the 2018 Rose Bowl Game. Placement of the barriers restricts non-authorized access but also allows for entry of emergency vehicles if required.

Mumbai, December 27: Drone manufacturer Zuppa is planning to raise about USD10 million funds over the next few months to fuel its expansion plans. The company’s plans comes after the Union government recently came out with new regulations on the use of drones by private citizens by lifting a 2014 ban.

Zuppa, owned by Chennai-based Sree Sai Aerotech Innovations Pvt. Ltd. (SSAI), plans to use the funds to scale up its existing products that have been developed using its proprietary technology and penetrate existing markets.

The expansion plans include developing newer applications for its core drone technology and service the jump in demand for its AIS 140 compliant Vehicle Tracking and Telematics Systems (VTS), which are mandated by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH) as well as among automobile OEMs.

Zuppa’s founder Sai Pattabiram said, “Our bankers have identified few VCs and strategic investors and we look at closing the funding round in the next two quarters and the company has already raised USD1 million from IndiaNivesh Special Situations and Growth Fund and MapMyIndia, a GPS navigation and tracking solution provider.”

Pattabiram said that the company is now ready to expand in its core drone manufacturing space after the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) came out with the new set of regulations which came into effect from first of this month. The regulation classifies remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) or drones as nano, micro, small, medium and large drones along with the do’s and dont’s of flying these drones.

He added that “Zuppa designs and manufactures its drones in India and also have a global patent for their drone technology. The company is a process of manufacturing an aeroplane-like drone (about one meter in length) that can be used to map larger areas in a shorter time and can be used in mapping and monitoring agricultural lands. Pattabiram said such drone can monitor 1000 acres of land in just one flight.”
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had come out with a new set of regulations in August this year and the same has come into effect from December 1. The Company is actively engaging with Civil Aviation authorities being the only manufacturer of Drones in India to ensure successful implementation of the regulations and the future of the drone industry in India.

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, USA, December 24, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — According to figures from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, upwards of 40,000 U.S. veterans are estimated to be homeless on any particular night, with a further 1.4 million veterans in the country considered at risk of homelessness, according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. Here, law graduate and businessman Steven R. Pietro reveals he and his company's support for homeless veterans as well as addressing insufficient affordable housing, a lack of adequate and available support networks, alcohol and substance abuse, and serious mental health issues among veterans.

"The percentage of homelessness among veterans has risen greatly in recent years," reveals Pietro, "such as in Palm Beach, for example, where the number of homeless veterans is estimated to have increased by as much as 70 percent."

Assisting veterans who suffer with alcohol and substance abuse, mental health issues, and medicine management in an effort to help curb many of the problems associated with homelessness, Pietro is also working to aid in job creation for veterans. "Many people will give $10 to a program or agency and think it will make an impact," he reveals. “And while that may be admirable and even generous we think that this problem has exacerbated to an almost crisis mode and to mitigate the damage requires a more grass-roots, hands-on approach.”

Accordingly, Steven Pietro wishes to further assist in supporting and finding valuable, skilled work for veterans, something which he says affords many veterans a feeling of purpose, a healthy source of income, and, as a result, helps to prevent against unnecessary cases of homelessness.

The Coalition Assured Autonomous Resupply (CAAR) is an example of such collaboration. This demonstration showed capability in unmanned tactical resupply throughout the 'Last Mile' – the final, most difficult, and dangerous stage of logistics support to soldiers in a combat zone.

DeNovi, a native of the small Italian town Bernalda in Basilicata, Italy, has built and run a number of successful ventures in Italy. While there, he scouted a number of interesting forward-thinking companies, seeking to find an exceptional venture to bring to the United States. His efforts led him to XSurgical (originally Surgica Robotica); and, after a period of due diligence, he determined that the market in the United States was right for this venture.

De Novi will lead XSurgical, now headquartered in Cambridge, as the firm’s Chief Executive Officer. In this capacity, he will work with investors, business leaders, and organizations in the development of a new product. XSurgical is building and will bring to market a remotely controlled surgical robot, which can be deployed in situations of disaster recovery, battlefield and even travels into space. The surgical robot will be able to perform open surgery and minimally invasive surgery, guided by surgeons from remote locations. The concept has received strong reviews from the military and the Department of Defense. XSurgical is also working to develop the artificial intelligence to compensate the communication delays initially and make subsequent robots fully autonomous.

DeNovi, who now resides in Cambridge, MA, brings a strong background in engineering and science to his latest entrepreneurial role. A faculty member at the Harvard Medical School, he earned his Master’s Degree in Electronics Engineering and his PhD in Robotics and Control Systems from the University of Bologna in Italy. While there, he also worked at the Laboratory of Automation and Robotics. After spending one year as a visiting researcher at the bio-robotics laboratory of Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, he completed his postdoctoral fellowship in medical simulation at the Department of Imaging at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.

In 2013 he became an instructor at Harvard Medical School in 2013. During the last few years he has also dedicated part of his academic life to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. De Novi has also acted as scientific consultant to many leading corporations and research institutions.

Dr. De Novi's interest in surgical robotics and computer-based surgery simulation began with exploration of cutting edge technologies for graphic and haptic rendering and developing studies in these domains. He has additionally concentrated his research interests on physical simulation of soft tissues, creating novel models and approaches optimized for haptic rendering. During his postdoctoral fellowship he focused his interests on other crucial aspects of surgery simulation, such as real-time gesture analysis and task recognition and augmented reality.

De Novi has been a scientific and strategic advisor at ADM Tronics Unlimited Inc. since May 2015 and served as a member of its Strategic and Scientific Advisory Board since September 2014. In 2013 the PrimiDieci Society and the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce recognized De Novi as one of the ten most distinguished Italian Professionals in the United States under the age of 40.
