NYC Mayor Says Potential Iran War Must Be Opposed on All Grounds
In an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, Mamdani condemned the financial burden of military action, noting it comes at a time when many Americans are grappling with a historic affordability crisis.
“I think we're seeing the fact that in the face of Americans facing a historic affordability crisis that we have the pursuit of something that has already cost $23 billion thus far — the kind of money that could transform working-class Americans’ lives,” he said, emphasizing that these funds could instead support health care, education, and student debt relief.
“And all of that being thrown aside for the pursuit of yet another regime change war,” he added.
Mamdani argued that a war with Iran should be opposed on “procedural,” “moral” and “political” grounds, as well as due to its economic impact. He also reflected on past conflicts, noting that despite his age, he remembers the “disastrous consequences of regime change wars.”
