Iran Says Truce, Blockade Issues Blocking ‘Genuine’ Talks with US
In a post on social media platform X, he accused Washington of inconsistent messaging, saying there is a contradiction between public statements and actual policies.
Separately, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said any ceasefire arrangement would only be valid if it is not undermined by naval restrictions or actions affecting global shipping routes. He also linked regional stability to the cessation of military activity across multiple fronts.
He further argued that access through key maritime chokepoints must not be restricted amid what he described as violations of ceasefire conditions.
Iranian officials have repeatedly maintained that external pressure measures and military actions are major barriers to negotiations, insisting that talks must be based on mutual recognition of national rights.
The statements come amid continued regional tensions following US and allied military actions earlier in the year, which were followed by retaliatory strikes and heightened instability across multiple countries in the region.
A ceasefire arrangement has been extended as diplomatic mediation efforts continue, including discussions facilitated through regional intermediaries, though uncertainty remains over the prospects for a lasting agreement.
