Stronger Together: NAVSO and Combined Arms Joining Forces

Introducing NAVSO as the Combined Arms Institute

ARLINGTON, VA, USA , October 21, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The National Association of Veteran-Serving Organizations (NAVSO), based in Arlington, Virginia, and Combined Arms, based in Houston, Texas, announced today they are joining forces. NAVSO’s programs, serving the nationwide military and veteran nonprofit community, will re-launch as the Combined Arms Institute, an expansive initiative within the Combined Arms portfolio.

NAVSO launched in early 2015 to maximize the impact of the veteran-serving community. Over its five-plus years, NAVSO has lived its trademarked mantra You Serve Them – We Serve You™ by providing fund development tools, professional and organizational development resources, cutting-edge human-centered design summits on topics ranging from veteran employment to disrupting the suicide prevention model, and highlighting the nation’s high-impact military community nonprofits (VSOs) through partnerships including the Military Influencer Conference and Joe Walsh’s VetsAid concerts. It’s now time for NAVSO to continue this mission — Stronger Together — aligned with one of the nation’s leading collective impact organizations at Combined Arms.

“Combined Arms personifies impactful service to veterans and their families, and is built from the ground up with growth and greater impact in mind,” said Tim Farrell, NAVSO President and CEO. “My duty to help the nation’s VSOs resource themselves and serve more effectively will be best served for the long term with this impactful partnership formalized moving forward, and I couldn’t be prouder.”

Founded in 2015, Combined Arms is a dynamic, ever-evolving collaborative impact organization employing an innovative combination of technology and service delivery to disrupt the veteran transition experience. By providing a holistic online assessment that efficiently connects veterans to member organizations, Combined Arms is accelerating veteran transition in order to deliver maximum impact at the community level. Combined Arms has expanded from its Houston roots to serve thousands of veteran families across Texas and in select nationwide markets. Launching the NAVSO mission as the new Combined Arms Institute will accelerate Combined Arms’ nationwide impact on veterans, currently serving military members, and the nonprofits that serve them and their families.

“NAVSO has been an extraordinary partner to Combined Arms since our inception, and we’ve exchanged so many ideas spanning local areas, regional and statewide initiatives, and nationwide innovations,” said John Boerstler, CEO of Combined Arms. “I’m grateful to both organizations’ staff and boards of directors for crafting this solution and making us Stronger Together for the benefit of the military community and the nonprofits who serve them.”

NAVSO’s programs and services will remain for the near term on the NAVSO website at www.navso.org, with migration of these resources to the Combined Arms Institute site over the next few months. More information about the new Combined Arms Institute can be found at www.combinedarms.us/institute.

D911 Inc Delivers a Mobile Application to Help E911 Operations During Disasters

Professional Disaster Response

D911 Inc has developed a mobile application that helps E911 operators and Emergency Managers gain better intelligence from the disaster theater.

The expertise that the military and civilian professionals bring to this application is exceptional. Their contributions have helped turn a complicated problem into a simple, intuitive solution.”

— Daniel Francis, App Designer

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, UNITED STATES, October 21, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Disasters of all types create a demand on resources that exceeds their immediate ability to respond. Post event operations can become difficult as incoming relief efforts compete with one another, and local resources, for opportunities to be helpful. In the midst of a disaster, there can be a moment of confusion and an overwhelmed system, handling the help requests that come into EOC's by way of the local E911 operations. In addition to this are the NGO's (Non Governmental Organizations) and GRIT's (Grass Roots Independent Teams) that enter the area to be helpful. How can Emergency Managers begin to get control and monitor all of this activity? Perhaps this will help. The D911 Mobile App.

The D911 Mobile Application provides emergency managers with technology to offshore non emergency help requests and damage reports to the D911 operations center that is in place to manage those requests. D911 works by matching requests to local and immigrating relief efforts in real time. Emergency Managers can see what type of requests are coming in, which NGO's and GRIT's may be responding to help, and coordinate their local resources with this activity to reduce redundant responses, freeing local emergency resources to focus on life and property threats as opposed to the typical relief efforts that are common to most disaster scenarios.

D911 manages relief agencies and independent operators in theater. Relief agencies registered in the app will receive notifications of help requests from survivors who make a request in app for assistance. The information gathered by the app includes the name, phone number and exact location of the device being used to make the request along with a brief description of the needs for that request.

D911 Inc. is a non-profit organization that developed this application. D911 expects to begin operations in summer 2021. "The organization is privately funded" says Daniel Francis, a former EMT, independent disaster responder and the applications designer. "We are hoping to have a significant impact on the way this information is managed and communicated between all involved with a disaster response response."

Francis says that he has consulted with retired US Coast Guard, UPS Logistics and Retired U.S. Special Forces officers to help design the app. "The expertise that the military and civilian professionals bring to this application is exceptional. Their contributions have helped turn a complicated problem into a simple, intuitive solution."

D911 operates like and E911 center, only the information and access is through a mobile application. The D911 operations center fields the requests and monitors activity. Active Emergency Operation Centers can see their areas activity and make requests of the resources as well. Daniel Francis says "There can be a dozen or more NGO Command Posts in a disaster theater, this app consolidates them into a single, real time interface."

The plan is to begin operations with local EOC's, expanding their reach and increasing the speed of response to their communities.

"The app is ready to be deployed" Says Francis, D911 wants the opportunity to show you how it can make a big difference".

Interested emergency managers can schedule a briefing on D911 on the D911.org website.

Funding tranche from Columbus-area accelerator to support Ubihere’s Air Force Phase II SBIR program

Ubihere is a great example of the innovation that is being pioneered in Ohio, and we are proud of Converge Ventures’ early investment in this groundbreaking company.”

— Michael Minihan, board member of Converge Ventures

COLUMBUS, OH, USA, October 21, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Converge Ventures, an accelerator and startup incubator based in suburban Columbus, Ohio that commercializes academic research and development, on September 30 deployed a $500,000 investment into Ubihere, a company that develops innovative real-time location systems (RTLS), which enable accurate, to-the-second inventory tracking and management in a wide variety of environments and conditions. The company was founded by Dr. Alper Yilmaz, a professor of geoinformatics at The Ohio State University, where he is also the head of the university’s Laboratory for Photogrammetric Computer Vision. The Converge Ventures investment will support Ubihere’s execution of a recently awarded contract from the Air Force’s SBIR program.

“Ubihere is a great example of the innovation that is being pioneered in Ohio, and we are proud of Converge Ventures’ early investment in this groundbreaking company,” says Michael Minihan, board member of Converge Ventures. “Ubihere’s success is in sprint mode now, with the Air Force Phase II SBIR contract now working towards implementation in 2021.”

Ubihere’s core technology uses proprietary multi-sensor hardware tracking tags and artificially intelligent software to pinpoint a given object’s movement and position in real time and with a much superior degree of accuracy compared to legacy real-time location systems. As Ubihere’s first military customer, the US Air Force’s 7th Bomb Wing, located at Dyess Air Force Base outside of Abilene, Texas, is adopting the company’s Ubitrax commercial product to keep track of nearly 1,000 pieces of equipment across a 6,409-acre base. Upon successful completion of the Phase II SBIR project, the Air Force has indicated a desire to purchase the system for six additional bases in 2021.

“The Ubihere team has taken great strides in meeting development milestones to position us to deliver our Ubitrax tag solution to Dyess Air Force Base in 2021. The capital from Converge Ventures will help us achieve these goals,” says Dr. Yilmaz. “At the same time, we are continuing to strengthen relations with the government and other key industry stakeholders, paving the way to strong returns and success moving forward.”

Before launching Ubihere, Dr. Yilmaz had worked for the US Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and NASA on several projects to locate people and analyze data in GPS-impermeable environments such as remote, mountainous terrain; and in extraterrestrial environments such as on Mars. Dr. Yilmaz is a senior member of the US National Academy of Inventors and has been published in or cited by academic journals more than 10,000 times.

Ubihere is just one of the success stories to come out of Converge Ventures. Converge Ventures’ unique model combines the latest R&D to come out of university research laboratories with the power of public-private partnerships to fund and commercialize groundbreaking technology that might not otherwise have seen the light of day. Converge Ventures has particular expertise in connecting leading-edge research with sources of non-dilutive capital; funding outlets that expand a startup’s coffers for development without reducing the founders’ equity and control of the company.

In effect, Converge Ventures helps close a virtuous circle for research — in Columbus and beyond.

“Startups coming from Ohio State often have a strong proof-of-concept and basic research funding,” says Cheryl Turnbull, senior director of the Keenan Center for Entrepreneurship at Ohio State. “While the university Board of Trustees committed $100 million to invest in a series of central Ohio-based funds to support these startups—we also encourage our startups to pursue non-dilutive funding sources and other outside investment to help take these technologies to market where they can have an impact on society.”

This round of funding for Ubihere is only the latest this year: Earlier in 2020, Ubihere received an $875,000 contract from the Air Force in connection to its work at Dyess AFB, in addition to venture capital and non-dilutive funds raised from Columbus-based Rev1 Ventures.

“Rev1 is pleased to see this startup gaining traction. We are delighted to provide continuing support for Ubihere and the great team they’ve built,” says Dave Bergeron, senior vice president, venture acceleration and development, Rev1 Ventures.

SUN PRAIRIE, WISCONSIN, UNITED STATES, October 20, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Continental Mapping Consultants, LLC (Continental Mapping) announced today it has completed the acquisition of TSG Solutions, Inc. (TSG), a global provider of situational awareness, geospatial services, and proprietary solutions for secured and unclassified environments. For almost 20 years, TSG has delivered GIS-enabled services and solutions to clients including the Department of Defense, the energy sector and major utilities solving national security, critical infrastructure, and facility challenges. This acquisition significantly strengthens Continental Mapping’s national security capabilities and enhances its portfolio of intellectual property.

Through this acquisition, Federal and commercial clients gain broad, complementary geospatial capabilities of a firm with an established and diverse client base, and proven data collection, processing, and analysis operations. Incorporating both firms’ experience and capabilities will provide clients with innovative geospatial solutions to modern security, infrastructure and facility problems.

“Geospatial solutions that provide actionable information is a driving force in the market,” Continental Mapping’s CEO, Dave Hart said. “TSG has built a framework of services and solutions that do just that. Through this acquisition we can apply our capabilities and tradecraft with theirs to bring that actionable intelligence to our clients.”

TSG’s CEO, Retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General John Iffland, said “I’m extremely proud of the business we have built over these past 20 years and the dedication of our staff to implementing professional, reliable, and capable services and solutions to meet our client’s requirements. By joining Continental Mapping, our offerings will be augmented and leveraged to better serve existing and new clients across markets.”

“We are very excited to combine our teams, experience and software solutions,” added TSG President and COO, Dianna Granum. “Our software solutions, such as ViSAR® and SiteScene™, will bring new capabilities to Continental Mapping’s customers and will benefit from Continental Mapping’s broad GIS and mapping expertise.” Both Iffland and Granum will remain with the company.

Continental Mapping, a Bluestone Investment Partners portfolio business, remains on a strong growth trajectory. Coupled with its recently announced win with the California Department of Transportation, Continental Mapping’s acquisition of Carlsbad, CA headquartered TSG significantly expands the firm’s presence in California and nationwide.

Michael Ivey, Managing Director of Bluestone added, "Bluestone is committed to helping Continental Mapping identify value added acquisitions in the geospatial data analytics market and helping the Continental Mapping founders and executive team execute on their ambitious strategy. Since our initial investment in the company seven months ago, we are impressed with the team’s success and TSG is an excellent first acquisition for the company.”

Colorado US Navy Veterans Lung Cancer Advocate Is Urging a VFW Member Who Has a Navy Veteran Friend with Lung Cancer in Colorado to tell his Wife to Call the Lawyers at KVO About Compensation-If he Had Asbestos Exposure

"Most Navy Veterans who now have lung cancer-and who had significant exposure to asbestos in the navy are not aware the $30 billion dollar-asbestos trust funds were set up for them too. ”

— Colorado US Navy Veterans Lung Cancer Advocate

DENVER, COLORADO , USA, October 20, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Colorado US Navy Veterans Lung Cancer Advocate is urging a member of the American Legion or VFW who has a Navy Veteran friend with lung cancer to please ask him if he had significant exposure to asbestos in the navy. If the answer is yes–please ask-his wife or family to call the lawyers at Karst von Oiste-KVO about compensation at 800-714-0303. Compensation for a person like this might exceed $100,000 and the financial compensation claim does not involve suing the navy. The typical person the Advocate is trying to identify is over 60 years old and their asbestos exposure took place prior to 1982. www.karstvonoiste.com/

The Advocate says, "Most Navy Veterans who now have lung cancer-and who had significant exposure to asbestos in the navy are not aware the $30 billion dollar-asbestos trust funds were set up for them too. If this sounds like a friend-please tell their family to call the lawyers at the law firm of Karst von Oiste-KVO at 800-714-0303. Financial compensation might be significant." www.karstvonoiste.com/

The Colorado US Navy Veterans Lung Cancer Advocate’s free services are available to people with asbestos exposure lung cancer or mesothelioma in Denver, Colorado Springs, Aurora, Fort Collins, Lakewood, Thronton, Pueblo, Greeley or anywhere in Colorado. https://Colorado.USNavyLungCancer.Com

High-risk work groups for exposure to asbestos in Colorado include US Navy Veterans, workers at Fort Carson, or Cheyenne Mountain, workers at one of Colorado’s 12 coal fired power plants, miners, manufacturing workers, public utility workers, plumbers, electricians, auto mechanics, machinists, or construction workers. In most instances, these types of workers were exposed to asbestos in the 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, or 1980’s. https://USNavyLungCancer.Com

According to the American Cancer Society for nonsmokers who have been exposed to asbestos in their workplace the risk of lung cancer is five times that of unexposed workers. https://www.cdc.gov/cancer/lung/statistics/index.htm.

The US Navy Veterans Lung Cancer Advocate says, “If your husband, dad, coworker or neighbor has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and you know they had significant exposure to asbestos in the navy, at a shipyard or while working at a factory, at power plant, public utility, or as a plumber, electrician welder, mechanic or any kind of skilled trades group in any state please have them call us anytime at 800-714-0303. Most people like this never get compensated-even though the asbestos trust funds were set up for them too. We are trying to change this sad fact.” https://USNavyLungCancer.Com

States with the highest incidence of lung cancer include Kentucky, West Virginia, Maine, Tennessee, Mississippi, Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Alabama, and Delaware. However, there are people with asbestos exposure lung cancer in Colorado. www.karstvonoiste.com/
