During his college years, Marvin worked as a prep chef in a restaurant. After college, he went into Bank Management where he was a Loan Officer and a Branch Manager. He assisted in opening two grocery store branch offices and helped design the space layout. He then worked for Virco School Furniture Manufacturing in sales before moving on to Wrightline Technical Furniture Manufacturing. At Wrightline he was in sales and then became an Area Manager where he managed 26 reps in 4 states. “At Wrightline, my job was to efficiently and ergonomically design work areas in high technology environments” he explains. In 1997, he completed his “Master of Service Management” degree. He pursued this degree because it was his desire to provide his clients and employees with the highest level of care and service.

At Wrightline, Marvin had access to a GSA schedule for his products and services. The GSA was established by President Harry Truman to streamline the administrative work of procurement for the federal government. His client base included all branches of the Military. As a Sales Rep and designer, Marvin worked with Warner Robins AFB, Fort Benning, USMC Logistics Support Base, Langley AFB, NASA Langley, Navy Station Norfolk, Little Creek Amphibious Base, St. Julien’s Creek Annex, Oceana Naval Air Station, Dam Neck and Ft. Monroe.

Marvin has designed Tank Battle Simulation Labs, F-15 Electronic Warfare Support Facilities, JOCS, NOCS, electronic repair labs, numerous computer rooms and numerous other highly classified electronic environments. As a Regional Manager, he worked with his sales staff in GA, FL, SC and AL. During his sales career, he won numerous Sales Awards, National Sales Contests and was consistently in the President’s Club as a Top Producer.

In 2003 Marvin was in a car wreck and spent a considerable amount of time in rehab. Once he recovered, he decided to go back into the furniture business because there was still a lot of opportunity there for him, but his heart really was not in it.

In 2006, Marvin took a Life Evaluation test. The purpose of this evaluation is to help you gain an understanding of where you are in your life and what you may be missing. He recalls, “I was asked ‘If you could do anything in the world, what would you do?’ and I quickly responded by saying ‘I want to get paid to play with dogs.’ Seriously, that is exactly what I wanted to do! I was committed to developing myself as a dog trainer at a dog training academy, so I researched the field and decided to go to the Triple Crown Academy for Dog Trainers (which is now Starmark Academy) in Hutto, Texas.” He continues. “A dog learns from interactions with its environment. This can be through classical conditioning, where a dog forms an association between two stimuli; non-associative learning, where behavior is modified through habituation or sensitization; and operant conditioning, where a dog forms an association between an antecedent and its consequence.

After graduating from TCA, Marvin opened his own business: Westlake Dog Training in Virginia Beach. Marvin later returned to TCA where he taught as an instructor, training students and trainers in training. After TCA, Marvin went to work for a Virginia Beach based Police and Military working dog kennel where they imported dogs from all over the world, trained them, sold them and exported them. He also assisted in training dogs in narcotics and explosive detection, tracking and protection work.

Marvin was friends with a dog breeder, Susie, who also worked in Real Estate. She encouraged him to get into Real Estate because she thought it would be a great fit for him. His family had always been in Real Estate, so it has been a huge part of his family history. In 2009, he got his Real Estate license.
