Lebanese President Praises Army’s Precision

(MENAFN) The Lebanese military is carrying out government directives south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon with “professionalism and precision,” President Joseph Aoun stated on Tuesday.

In his remarks, Aoun denounced Israeli bombardments that struck several towns in southern and eastern Lebanon on Monday following urgent evacuation orders. Another strike hit a three-story building in Sidon early Tuesday, leaving one person injured.

Aoun stressed that the Israeli assaults “raise serious questions” as they coincided with the scheduled meeting of the ceasefire mechanism committee.

This body is responsible for halting clashes and discussing concrete measures to restore calm and stability in southern Lebanon, including the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the border, the liberation of Lebanese detainees, and the full deployment of the Lebanese army in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

“Israel’s continued attacks aim to derail local, regional and international efforts to curb the ongoing escalation, despite Lebanon’s cooperation and government measures to extend state authority south of the Litani River,” he said.

“The Lebanese army has implemented those measures with professionalism, precision, and discipline.”

Aoun reiterated his appeal for the global community to step in decisively to halt Israeli strikes in Lebanon and allow the ceasefire committee to fulfill its mission.

These developments came alongside Israeli media reports suggesting preparations for a potential large-scale offensive against Hezbollah positions if the Lebanese government and army fail to dismantle the group’s arsenal.
