Syrian army boosts alert as YPG/SDF movements reported in eastern Aleppo
According to a statement from the army’s Operations Command, drones detected the arrival of armed groups along with medium and heavy weapons at the Deir Hafer front, east of Aleppo.
The statement noted that the purpose of these reinforcements remains unclear, but Syrian forces have reinforced their deployment lines and are on full alert. “We are prepared for all scenarios,” the command said.
The developments coincide with the evacuation of the last group of SDF members from Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. Military operations in the district were officially halted Saturday at 3 p.m. local time.
Since Tuesday, SDF forces have shelled residential areas, civilian facilities, and Syrian Army positions in Aleppo, killing 24 people, injuring nearly 130, and displacing about 165,000 residents from the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud districts, according to official figures.
Earlier agreements between Damascus and the SDF sought to integrate the group into state institutions. In March 2025, the Syrian presidency announced a deal reaffirming national unity and rejecting division. A subsequent April 2025 agreement designated Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh as administrative parts of Aleppo, while acknowledging their local particularities.
