Nigerian military strikes Boko Haram targets in Borno, killing forty

(MENAFN) The Nigerian military eliminated at least 40 Boko Haram fighters during air operations conducted over two days earlier this week in northeastern Borno state, according to reports from the Air Force.

Nigerian Air Force spokesman Ehimen Ejodame said in a written statement that the airstrikes targeted Boko Haram positions on Thursday and Friday. He added that 40 militants were killed and others were injured in the attacks.

Since 2009, Nigeria has faced persistent assaults from Boko Haram and similar extremist groups, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and displacing many people across Nigeria as well as neighboring countries including Cameroon, Chad, and Niger.
