Israel Completes Tests of Upgraded David’s Sling Air Defense System

(MENAFN) Israel announced on Wednesday that it has successfully completed a series of upgraded tests on its David’s Sling air defense system, which is designed to counter a broad range of threats, including rockets, missiles, cruise missiles, aircraft, and drones.

In a statement, the Israeli Defense Ministry said the tests were conducted by the Israel Missile Defense Organization in collaboration with the US Missile Defense Agency and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, a leading Israeli defense firm.

“The test series was built on operational lessons learned from recent combat and included a wide range of challenging scenarios simulating existing and emerging threats,” the statement said.

Moshe Patel, head of the Israel Missile Defense Organization, said the tests concluded “with complete success, enabling a significant upgrade to the State of Israel's air and missile defense architecture."

David’s Sling, in service since 2017, forms the middle tier of Israel’s layered missile defense system, positioned between the long-range Arrow system and the short-range Iron Dome.

Israel’s arsenal also includes US-made THAAD ballistic missile defense systems.

With discussions ongoing over a potential US strike on Iran, Israeli officials say they are preparing for all possible contingencies.
