UAE, Qatar Urge Trump to Limit Duration of Military Action Against Iran

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates and Qatar are reportedly lobbying allies behind the scenes to persuade US President Donald Trump to restrict the duration of military operations against Iran, as stated by reports.

Both countries are seeking to form a broad coalition aimed at achieving a swift diplomatic resolution, motivated by concerns over regional escalation and potential shocks to global energy markets. According to assessments cited by reports, disruptions to shipping lanes could provoke significant reactions in natural gas markets if they persist past the middle of the week.

Trump, speaking Monday, indicated that the campaign is expected to last four to five weeks but could be extended if necessary, while also claiming that operations are proceeding "ahead of schedule" without offering specific details.

Meanwhile, both Gulf states are accelerating efforts to strengthen air defenses. The UAE has requested support for medium-range air defense systems, while Qatar is focusing on countering drone attacks. Internal assessments, as reported, suggest Qatar’s stockpile of Patriot interceptor missiles could last only four more days at current usage rates.

Earlier Monday, Qatari authorities said their air defenses had intercepted seven ballistic missiles and five drones and shot down two SU-24 aircraft launched toward the country.

The measures come amid Iranian retaliatory strikes targeting Gulf nations hosting US military assets following a joint US-Israeli operation on Saturday that reportedly killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Officials from the UAE and Qatar have not publicly commented on the lobbying efforts described in the report.
