Israel Begins to Deploy Not as Effective Missile Defense Systems

(MENAFN) Israel has reportedly begun deploying air defense systems that were not originally engineered to counter certain types of missile threats, as pressure builds on its defensive capabilities, according to reports.

As stated by reports, the Israeli military has increasingly depended on both US-supplied interception systems and lower-tier platforms such as David’s Sling to handle incoming projectiles. These systems, however, were not specifically designed to deal with the kinds of threats typically addressed by more advanced technologies like Arrow 3.

According to reports, internal disagreements between government bodies contributed to delays in expanding interceptor missile production. Financial disputes between defense and finance authorities reportedly led to the cancellation of plans for an additional manufacturing line, despite repeated warnings from security officials about the urgent need to boost output.

The situation was further compounded by slow budget allocations, which postponed efforts to scale up production capacity. Reports indicate that only earlier this year did expansion begin, following the establishment of new infrastructure.

Additionally, according to reports, outstanding payments owed by the government to defense contractors have been increasing due to delays in settling bills for previously delivered equipment and systems.

While officials claim interception success rates of around 90%, multiple incidents have still resulted in casualties, with numerous people reported killed or injured by missiles and drones launched from Iran and by Hezbollah.
