Poland Signals Readiness to Expand US Army Presence on NATO’s Eastern Border

(MENAFN) Poland has stated that it is prepared to accommodate additional United States troops in order to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank and strengthen regional security, according to reports.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said Poland views its alliance with the United States as a core pillar of national security. He indicated that Warsaw is willing to host more American forces to improve defensive capabilities along NATO’s eastern frontier and enhance protection for Europe more broadly.

His remarks follow recent US announcements suggesting a possible repositioning of troops in Europe, including plans to reduce forces stationed in Germany. The US currently maintains tens of thousands of personnel there, making it a central base for American military operations on the continent.

Poland has for several years advocated for a stronger and more lasting US military presence on its territory. Since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Warsaw has significantly increased its defence spending and expanded cooperation with Washington through rotational deployments, infrastructure support, and air defence cooperation.

According to reports, concerns have grown in European capitals about potential shifts in US military commitments to NATO, particularly if troop levels in key countries are reduced.

Polish leadership has repeatedly stressed the importance of alliance unity. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that internal divisions within NATO could pose a greater threat than external actors, urging stronger coordination between Europe and the United States to preserve the alliance’s effectiveness.
