Provided by AGPThe German armed forces, known as the Bundeswehr, will establish a Patriot “Air and Missile Defense Task Force” that will coordinate closely with the Turkish military, according to a statement from the German Defense Ministry.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said “Germany is taking on more responsibility within NATO,” noting that the German Patriot unit, along with roughly 150 soldiers, will replace a US unit currently stationed in Türkiye.
“Our air force is doing great, internationally respected work,” Pistorius said, adding in reference to past deployments: “With their professionalism they will make an important contribution to protecting NATO airspace.”
The ministry explained that the deployment will operate under NATO’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense (NATO IAMD) framework. The mission is currently planned to run from June to September 2026.
