Iran Military Says Armed Forces Hold Full Control Over Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Iran’s top military command has stated that its armed forces are exercising full authority over maritime management in the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports from an official news agency.

In a statement, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters emphasized that all vessels, including commercial ships and oil tankers, must pass through designated Iranian routes and obtain clearance from the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in order to transit the waterway.

The statement also warned that Iranian forces would respond to any attempt by military vessels to interfere with what it described as Iran’s management of the strait or to disrupt maritime traffic in the region.

Separately, the IRGC Navy said that 20 vessels had passed through the strait over the past 24 hours in coordination with Iranian maritime authorities, as reported by a media outlet.

According to officials cited by Fars, these vessels were allowed transit after receiving permission, based on the need of their countries for essential goods such as chemical fertilizers.

Iran reportedly began tightening its control over the strategic waterway after Feb. 28, when it restricted safe passage for ships linked to Israel and the United States following joint strikes on Iranian territory.

It was also stated that the United States has imposed a naval blockade affecting traffic to and from Iranian ports, limiting vessel movement through the strait.
