A spokesman for the Iranian army declared that countries enforcing US sanctions against Tehran will "certainly face difficulties in passing through the Strait of Hormuz," according to local media — a warning that sent fresh shockwaves through already rattled global energy markets.
"None of the enemy's objectives were achieved," and the political balance of the Iranian system was "not disrupted," Brig. Gen. Akrami Nia said in a statement carried by a semi-official news agency — a pointed assertion that Tehran views its position as undiminished despite months of mounting external pressure.
The inflammatory rhetoric reflects a broader regional crisis ignited when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes against Iran on February 28, unleashing a wave of Iranian retaliation against Israel and US allies throughout the Gulf, ultimately forcing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
A fragile ceasefire — brokered through Pakistani mediation — took hold on April 8, though subsequent negotiations in Islamabad collapsed without yielding a binding resolution. US President Donald Trump later extended the truce indefinitely, creating diplomatic space to pursue a permanent end to the conflict.
The US has simultaneously maintained a sweeping naval blockade against Iranian maritime traffic through the waterway since April 13.
