MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Hospitalman Kimberly MartinezInfante, a native of San Diego, California, was recently named Motivator of the Month while serving aboard U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (USNMRTC) Guantanamo Bay at U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Motivator of the Month is an award that recognizes sailors for their outstanding performance, dedication to duty, and their ability to inspire and motivate others within the Navy. MartinezInfante has been selected for this award three times.

MartinezInfante graduated from Lincoln High School in 2021.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in San Diego.

“While working different jobs, I learned how to persevere in fast-paced environments and not take things to heart,” MartinezInfante said. “Although you may see many patients throughout the day, you shouldn’t let what happened to you in a different encounter change how you react toward another patient.”

MartinezInfante joined the Navy two years ago. Today, MartinezInfante serves as a hospital corpsman.

“I joined the Navy because I wanted to be a leading example for my younger siblings and help my family,” MartinezInfante said. “I am the first in my household to join the Navy.”

USNMRTC Guantanamo Bay focuses on three critical mission priorities: warfighter readiness, medical force generation and supporting the delivery of high-quality health care at U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay.

U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay provides health care to the U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay community, which consists of approximately 4,500 military members, federal employees, U.S. and foreign national contractors and their families. The hospital also operates the only overseas military home health care facility, providing care to elderly special category residents who sought asylum on the installation during the Cuban Revolution.

Navy Medicine – represented by more than 44,000 highly-trained military and civilian health care professionals – provides enduring expeditionary medical support to the warfighter on, below, and above the sea, and ashore.

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

MartinezInfante has had many opportunities to achieve accomplishments during military service.

“I am most proud of being named the Sailor of the Quarter for the fourth quarter,” MartinezInfante said. “I am also proud of coming this far and not giving up on myself, so I can inspire and help other sailors.”

MartinezInfante serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“Serving in the Navy means a lot to me,” MartinezInfante said. “It has motivated me to do better for myself professionally and personally. I would not be where I want to be without being part of the Navy. I serve to protect and care for the ones I love, while also growing as a person.”

MartinezInfante is grateful to others for helping make a Navy career possible.

“I would love to thank my parents and my siblings for being my greatest supporters,” MartinezInfante said. “Without them, I would not have made it this far in my naval career.”

This year, the Navy is commemorating its contribution to the nation’s defense as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence. According to Navy officials, for more than 250 years, the Navy has sailed the globe defending freedom and protecting prosperity.
